Little Taggy series

What an amazing time spring is! You can literally see the nature waking up. Little crawlies coming out under their hiding places, trees getting their leaves, flowers blooming…and butterflies!

Those wonderful, colorful creatures flying around us, bringing joy each time they pass us by. So today we made butterflies of our own.

At first we went for a walk. A narrow sand road, surrounded by the fields led us to a small forest. While walking we saw a couple of small tortoiseshells, large whites and brimstones flying above the fields, stopping by on a flowers and spreading pure happiness around us. We sat on a grass, ate our packed lunch and admired the colorful butterflies and the awakening nature, while birds were singing around us.

Later, at home, we investigated all kinds of butterflies using a tablet, picked which ones we wanted to paint and then started to craft.

You need:

Thick-ish paper size A4, pen, scissors, finger-paints or something similar which is suitable for small kids, glue stick, glitter, ‘pipe cleaners’, glue (gun) BUT if you don’t have these things at home and you don’t want to buy them, you can always improvise and replace them with something other. You can leave the glitter out, make the tentacles from a cardboard, use a magazine as the base of the butterflies…anything is possible!

1. Draw a full or a half butterfly on a paper (if you’re drawing a half, remember to fold the paper first!). An adult can do this or if you have older siblings maybe they can help.
2. Cut the butterfly drawing from the paper. You can do this together or an adult can do it for you, if you’re still a very Little Taggy.
3. Paint the butterfly with whatever color you like the most!
4. Let it dry.
5. Draw lines, circles etc with a glue stick on the butterfly, sprinkle some glitter on it.
6. Curl the tentacles from a furry pipe cleaner, meant for kids craft, with your fingers.
7. Glue the tentacles on the butterfly with a glue gun ( an adult will do this!) or with a glue meant for craft and tadaa… your butterfly is ready!

BUT what if you don’t live nearby a forest or a field? No worries! You can skip the trip part and do the rest just staying at home OR you can do an imaginary play by packing some lunch on the backpack, putting a blanket on your floor and imagining your outside. You can even lay on the blanket with your eyes closed and tell each other what kind of butterflies you see. It doesn’t matter if they’re real or not. The most important thing is that you’re doing it together. And you know what the best part is? You don’t even need a tablet to do this!
